Why Silicon is preferred over Germanium for Diode Manufacturing?

Here the fist four points are advantages of Silicon (Si) based diode over Germanium (Ge) based diode.
The last point is the disadvantage of the silicon diode.

Si Based Diode Ge Based Diode
It is Cheap.
Silicon is nothing but the sand which is available plenty in our world
Comparatively not cheap.
They have high Peak Inverse Voltages (PIV).
ie, In the range of 1000Volts.
Comparatively they have low peak inverse voltages (PIV).
ie, In the range of 400Volts
It can be used in high temperature applications as it has good temperature stability.
ie, In the range of 200° C 
It can be used in low temperature applications only.
ie, Upto 85° C
Reverse leakage current IR(leakage) is in nA range. Reverse leakage current IR(leakage) is in mA range.
Forward Voltage drop (Vf) to turn ON the diode is called as Threshold Voltage(VT) or firing potential.
In Si based diode, VT is around 0.7Volts.
It means, Once the applied forward voltage reaches 0.7Volt, the Si diode will start to conduct.
It has lower Threshold Voltage(VT) or firing potential.
ie VT = 0.3Volts
It means, Once the applied forward voltage reaches 0.3Volt, the Ge based diode will start to conduct.
So Ge diodes are good for small signal detection.

Even though the silicon-based diodes have the disadvantage of having high forward voltage drop, due to their other advantages it is used most widely.
